Swimming pool owners in the Tweed have been given until 19 November 2013 to register their pools on a NSW state-wide database before they risk being fined.
Households with swimming pools and spa pools were required to record their pools on the electronic NSW Swimming Pool Register before 29 October, or risk a fine of up to $2200.
Many people tried to register their pools in the final days before the deadline, putting the electronic register under pressure and preventing some households from sbmitting their information on time.
Owners are required to provide the address of the pool, type of pool, date of construction or installation and the dates and outcomes of any inspections. Owners will also be required to certify that, to the bet of their knowledge, their pool barrier complies with the regulations. The introduction of the register follows changes to the NSW Swimming Pools Act, which also require Council to implement a pools safety fencing inspection program.
Council recently engaged with the community, including a public survey, to help determine an appropriate inspection program for the Tweed. The results of the survey can be viewed at www.tweed.nsw.gov.au/SwimmingPools or www.yoursaytweed.com.au
